How the Odds Converter works
One price, every format, no convert button
- 1
Type a price in any field
Enter American odds like -110 or +150, decimal odds like 1.91, a fraction like 7/4 (a bare 5 reads as 5/1), or a probability with or without the percent sign. Commas and spaces in big numbers are fine.
- 2
Read the other three
The remaining fields reformat as you go, while the one you are typing in is left alone so a half-finished entry never gets rewritten under your cursor. The page opens at -110, the price most US markets are quoted at.
- 3
Check the payout
Enter a stake and the payout block shows the total return and the profit on top at the current price, so you can see what a line actually pays before you place it.
What is inside
Everything is derived from one decimal price, so the fields round-trip without drifting
American odds
The US format: a minus number is what you risk to win 100, a plus number is what 100 wins. Read and written with the sign, rounded to the whole number books actually post.
Decimal odds
The total return per unit staked, including your stake. It is the format the converter stores internally because it is continuous and unambiguous.
Fractional odds
Profit over stake, as a UK board shows it. The converter finds the nearest fraction with a denominator up to 1,000, so 1.909 comes back as 10/11 rather than a long decimal.
Implied probability
How often the price says the outcome happens. It still includes the sportsbook's margin; the Vig Remover strips that out to reach the fair probability.
Payout calculator
Type a stake and see the total return and profit at the current price. It updates with every change to the odds, in whichever format you edit.
Round-price conversion table
A ladder of common American prices from -10000 through even money to +10000, with each one in every format. The rung matching your price is lit, and tapping any row loads it.
Implied probability includes the vig. Strip it out with the Vig Remover
A converted probability is what the book's price says, margin included, so both sides of a market add up to more than 100%. The Vig Remover takes every side and removes the margin to show the fair, no-vig odds.
Who the Odds Converter is for
Bettors comparing books in different formats
An offshore book quotes 1.91, a UK book 10/11, a US book -110. Put any of them in and see whether they are the same price.
Anyone learning what a price means
Seeing +250 as 2.50, 5/2 and 28.6% at the same time is the fastest way to build an instinct for odds.
Spreadsheet builders
The Formulas section lists the arithmetic behind every conversion, so you can reproduce it in your own sheet and check your numbers against the tool.
Frequently asked questions
How do you convert American odds to decimal?
For a plus price, divide the odds by 100 and add 1: +150 becomes 2.50. For a minus price, divide 100 by the absolute value and add 1: -110 becomes 1.91. The Odds Converter does this instantly in either direction.
How do you convert decimal odds to American?
If the decimal price is 2.00 or longer, subtract 1 and multiply by 100: 2.50 becomes +150. If it is shorter than 2.00, divide -100 by the decimal minus 1: 1.91 becomes -110.
How do you calculate implied probability from odds?
Divide 1 by the decimal odds and multiply by 100. At 1.91, that is 52.4%; at 2.50 it is 40%. This is the probability the book's price implies, and it includes the book's margin.
What are fractional odds?
Fractional odds show the profit relative to the stake: 7/4 means you win 7 for every 4 staked. To convert to decimal, divide the numerator by the denominator and add 1, so 7/4 is 2.75, or +175 in American odds.
Why do both sides of a market add up to more than 100%?
Because the implied probability of a posted price includes the sportsbook's margin, the vig. Two -110 prices each imply 52.4%, for a total of 104.8%. The Vig Remover removes that margin to find the fair probability of each side.
How is the Odds Converter different from the Vig Remover?
The Odds Converter translates a single price between formats and shows what it pays. The Vig Remover takes every side of a market, strips the book's margin out, and compares the price you are offered against the fair line.
Which plan includes the Odds Converter?
The Odds Converter is a free tool, open to everyone whether or not you are signed in. It is listed under Basic Tools on every Locktopus plan.
